The PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient), is a ceramic semiconductor with a positive coefficient that changes its resistance as a function of temperature. TMC PTCs are thermal protectors designed and manufactured for insertion in the coils of electric motors or transformers.
OPERATION If the temperature rises within ten degrees of the nominal temperature, a change in resistance greater than 1kOhm is observed. This change is read by an instrument connected to the PTC (trip), which opens the circuit permanently.
MOUNTING PTCs should be inserted parallel to the winding direction to minimise mechanical stress.
DIMENSIONS are particularly small to facilitate hank insertion and to ensure a rapid response to temperature variation. The sensing element is insulated with Kynar® heat shrink tubing (registered trademark ATOFINA)
The colour coding of the cables allows immediate identification of temperatures
